"I love the energy, when the drums kick in. In the midst of a protest our samba band can create an autonomous space. It lets people be themselves."
Rhythms of Resistance London formed as part of the UK Earth First action against the IMF and World Bank in Prague in September 2000.
"The actions against the IMF and World Bank consisted of more than 20,000 people from all over the world. Due to the diverse nature of the crowd, a "diversity of tactics" was agreed upon and the 20,000 people divided into four separate marches, one of which was The "Pink and Silver" march. The "Pink and Silver" march had a carnivalesque approach to resistance and linked to the Reclaim The Streets movement. Its tactics involved tactical frivolity, music and dance" ....and this is how the London Rhythms of Resistance was born.
