The idea to create a radical samba band in Manchester with the ethos of Rhythms of Resistance, originated in 2004 when some sambistas who were members of a Manchester samba band proposed that the band fuses with the RoR Network.

The idea started to materialize in July 2005, at the eco-village in Scotland during the G8 resistance, after a Manchester sambista was supported and inspired by the International RoR network. The group since then has been growing larger, sometimes smaller, but mostly supporting the anti-war movement, the no borders movement and environmental causes.

The group, has also held community samba workshops and film nights to support friends who are in Palestine, and sambistas who are fighting for ecological justice.
