Manchester
The idea to create a radical samba band in Manchester with the ethos of Rhythms of Resistance, originated in 2004 when some sambistas who were members of a Manchester samba band proposed that the band fuses with the RoR Network.
The idea started to materialize in July 2005, at the eco-village in Scotland during the G8 resistance, after a Manchester sambista was supported and inspired by the International RoR network. The group since then has been growing larger, sometimes smaller, but (...)

Rhythms of Resistance Köln
We are a samba-action-band, that developed itself from the cologne section of "noone is illegal" in 2002. We are part of the transnational network Rhythms of Resistance, that we discovered in 2003. For us, our street-samba-band is a strategic block, which uses the activating and supporting power of music in demonstrations and other political actions. We play and dance during any political actitivities that enough of us to form a band consider worth supporting. Such (...)

"I love the energy, when the drums kick in. In the midst of a protest our samba band can create an autonomous space. It lets people be themselves."
Rhythms of Resistance London formed as part of the UK Earth First action against the IMF and World Bank in Prague in September 2000.
"The actions against the IMF and World Bank consisted of more than 20,000 people from all over the world. Due to the diverse nature of the crowd, a "diversity of tactics" was agreed upon and the 20,000 people (...)

Gent - Samba de la Gente
[for english see below]

We practise every thursday at 19.30 in the top floor studio of Overtoom 301, near Vondelpark. If you want the band to join an action, drop by to tell us about it. Or, if you are interested to join the band, it would be nice if you can make your first visit on the first thursday of the month, this way we can take a bit of time to introduce ourselves and the rhythms a bit. Welcome..

Breaks
How to play breaks in the tunes
The spices of the different tunes are the breaks that interrupt the groove to adjoin an element of unexpectedness. Breaks can be mixed among each other, creating a big variety of possible rhythms out of one tune. You can find some stuff on how the maestra communicates with the band and how breaks are played.
